New Underground Service in Topeka, Kansas

This week we have been working as a subcontractor for Passow Remodeling, 1900 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66615 (passowremodeling.com) on a home addition located in Topeka, Kansas. The home sits on Lake Sherwood. You could not have asked for a prettier work location!

It was necessary to relocate the electrical service due to the location of the new addition. The home had the original Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panel. CWC Electric, LLC always recommends this brand panel be replaced due to safety issues (refer to our website for additional information).

This job required a 95 foot long, 30-inch deep trench from the utility pedestal to the new meter can location. Trenching can be difficult because you do not know what you will find below ground. It is not uncommon to hit cement, large rocks, tree roots or improperly marked utility lines. On this job we had a very narrow, downhill area within to trench with several utility lines to avoid.

Once the pipe has been laid, the trench is back filled and compacted.

The new General Electric 200 amp panel has been installed and the home is now ready for construction to begin on the new addition.

Last week we did some work at the Family Dollar Store located in Topeka, Kansas. We installed new control panels for the store's energy management system. These type of systems are controlled remotely but can be over rode locally when necessary. These systems manage the interior and exterior lighting of the store depending on store hours and local light conditions. The purpose of these systems is to manage and reduce energy costs.

A door prize was offered by The Onyx Collection (Showers--Lavatories--Tub Surround & Shower Walls).  And who was the winner? Anyone we know?

Habitat for Humanity

This week, CWC Electric, LLC is one of several local contractors who began work on a Habitat for Humanity home located in Topeka, Kansas. The house to be build will become the home for the Bora Munganga family. Mr. Munganga was born in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa and always dreamed of relocating his family to a safer environment.  The family realized that dream in 2009 when they moved their family of eight to Topeka, Kansas.

This week, the temporary pole was set by CWC Electric, LLC at the jobsite and framing has begun on the poured foundation. A family of eight requires a slightly larger home than the typical Habitat of Humanity house.

The home is scheduled to be be completed by mid-August.
